As an Apron-iCity Shop, we will be hosting apron classes starting in May, culminating in an event for “National Tie One On Day” in November (look for exact details coming soon) National Tie One on Day™ is the brainchild of EllynAnne Geisel, author of The Apron Book, and is now in its third year. In keeping with Geisel’s vision, on the day before Thanksgiving, women across the country will be celebrating the day by wrapping a loaf of bread in an apron and tucking a prayer or a note of encouragement in the pocket—and then delivering the bundle to someone in need of physical or spiritual sustenance—or both. Sisters of Summer Sale Friday, July 10th 10am-5pm & Saturday, July 11th9am-4pm Bring in your sister and you each get a free fat quarter! * Pick a flower from the flower pot to see what your special savings will be! Change in machine quilting services offered over the summer As some of you know, I have done some machine quilting for other people here at the shop as time allows. As of now, I will not be offering these services anymore, at least not for the summer. I will re-evaluate in the fall. I will still finish the quilts of those that I currently have and will honor any certificates that are still waiting to be redeemed. If you are in need of machine quilting services, there are many wonderful local options and I have a listing of them for you at the shop. My intent is to get more of the shop samples finished as time permits this summer. 3rd Annual Quilt Minnesota This year each shop will be giving away a 5" square of fabric from the Quilt Minnesota Shop Hop Fabric Line and a pattern for a 9" finished block. The fun starts Friday July 31st and goes through Sunday August 16TH, 2009 Mon. - Sat. 10 AM - 5 PM & Sun. Noon - 5 PM Fabrics arriving Mid- May. Pre-orders for the fabrics are welcome at anytime. The price is $8.99 per yard. The fabrics are not allowed to leave the store until the hop, but if last year is any indication, you may want to order your fabrics early. Pig Pageant 4th Annual Quilted/ Stuffed Animal Beauty Pageant! 1.) Stop by the shop and buy a Rumpled Quilt Skins pattern “Piggy.” $9.00. The pudgy porker features a puffy snout, floppy ears and a corkscrew tail. A little batting under the skin is topstitched to add a pleasant plumpness. Measures 8" tall. 2.) Drop off your future pig prince or princess by Monday, July 27th. We will be holding a pig pageant starting July 31st and awarding prizes August 22nd. Prizes will be based on customer feedback for most unique, cutest, etc Prizes will include gift certificates, fat quarter packs and other treats. NEW Summer Block of the Month Club starting in May I have had some requests from our summer residents that they would like to see a shorter block of the month club. So we will give it a try, open to anyone who would like to join the fun! The pattern that we are going to be doing is called “Star Party.” It will run for 4 months (May 15- August.) You will be able to pick up your kit for each month for $7.00 anytime during that month. The combination of the four kits will include all of the fabric for the top on the quilt along with the binding. Finished size is 36 ½” square, makes a great table topper or wall hanging. We will be offering the kits in two color ways, one will be a Christmas theme and one will be a patriotic theme. Kids Camp Classes: Have your kids join me this summer to create some projects of their own! We will start out very simple and move into other project choices. Ages 8 and up welcome! Adults wanting to complete the project are welcome too! Easy 4-Patch Quilt: This easy little quilt is great for beginners. The pattern makes a 43”x43” quilt, perfect for a small lap throw or a baby gift. We’ll have a big outdoor tent and lemonade. Join us for some shopping fun! Interested in having your own booth? Sign up at the shop. Rent a space for $10; bring your own chairs, table, and change. (May rent a table and chairs for an additional charge, first come first served.) You set your own prices and manage your own table. Sell all of your old quilt tops, blocks, UFO’s, patterns, notions, fabrics that you are tired of and no longer want, anything quilt related. Reserve your spot by: July 31st The day of the sale, I will be at the shop ready for set up as early as 7:30 am. The sale will run from 9am-1pm. I have reserved a 20’ by 30’ tent to be set up in the parking lot, but I am still hoping for beautiful weather. Space under the tent is limited and based on your sign-up order. I will be having specials in the shop, free lemonade, and will advertise in the local papers. It should be a very festive day! Snap Sacks Need a small project for the summer? Try a Snap Sack. Each month is a different small table topper or table runner. Kits are $12.99 and include not only the pattern and the fabric for the top of the project, but also the backing and binding! StarFlake Equinox Dutch Treat “Charming Challenge III” 1.) Get ready for this year’s challenge early! Your entry must be a quilt, wall hanging, table topper, or table runner. Aprons or totes would be acceptable. They just need to be under the size of 60”x60.” 2.) Must use at least one charm pack (5” squares packet) jelly roll, honey bun, or layer cake from any fabric line of your choosing. There is no limit on the number of fabrics that you may use. Embellishments such as beads, embroidery, ribbons, lace, etc. may also be used. 3.) Entry may be pieced or appliqué. 4.) Completed entries must be submitted by 6pm on Monday, October 5th. 5.) Thimbleberries Quilt Club: Next, Thimbleberries Quilt Club meetings are the first Tuesday of the month at 6pm and the following Wednesday morning at 10am. Class Sign up Day: See the attached calendars and stop in the shop on those designated days to sign up for classes and pay the class fee. If you sign up on this day, you will get a 10% discount on the class fee and one free fat quarter. Block of the Month Setting Kits: Starting today, as I write this update, there is a limited supply of setting kits available for the Chicken Buffet Block of the Month. They are $35.99 and include binding. We are already at month 6 of the block of the month clubs for this year and it isn’t too soon to start to put some of your rows together. Black and White Block of the Month Members: your setting kits will be available shortly, hopefully next month.
